Added it to the builds page!
I made a second magnet with the opposite color way, so my wife and I can fly with matching kites. (The new one is on the right)

Where are you from JonB ?

Here is the beach pic. I made this for my wife, but it flies too well, I might keep it for myself!

The Kite and Friends archive no longer works. Does anyone have a copy of Abraxas plans, or know where they are hosted?
-
It is complete!

Ok, one last question.
For the lower spreader APA location: the plan says to place a clip at the end of the lower leading edge, with bridle above it, followed by the APA. But that would mean that any time the leading edge is broken down, the bridle would come loose, and the APA could potentially come off? Or was this a typo, is the clip supposed to go at the end of the upper leading edge?
Does anyone have a detailed photo of their lower spreader leading edge fitting?
-
Thanks.
With the alternate bridle, the description says to also move the center to by 2cm -- does that mean to move the entire reinforcement as well? Or is there room to slide the T forward into the existing cutout? Do the leading edge fittings also have to move up when moving the T?
(Here is the result of two evenings work)

Hello, I am starting a Magnet Std build, and wanted some advice:
1) do most people build the nose per the plan? Or using a kitehouse style nose?
2) do people tend to reinforce the center seam with mylar?
3) Is the center seam also 6mm? The seam is not shown on the plan so just confirming.
4) is the spine measurement the dimensions of the rod itself, or does it include the fitting?
5) any other suggestions or tips? For instance, what is the consensus on the alternate bridle? Any recommended modifications to the plan make it easier to build, or improve characteristics?

There was some discussion of Watty's vented escape. He has published his venting details/plans here:

You can see close up photos and discussion of vent and frame in watty's build logs:

Thanks. I probably need to find someone more experienced than me to fly it. I just wasn't sure if I have something wrong with my framing or balance or bridle.
-
Actually, one more question. I am finding that whenever I try to flare, the nose wants to rise up, and the kite just ends up with it's back facing me, lines under the trailing edges. I have been unable to get into a fade. At the same time, the kite seems to want to sit very very deep in the turtle -- so it is as if the nose has too much lift
Any suggestions on tuning the bridle or connections in some way to achieve better balance? This is the [Return] Std P200, built pretty much directly per plan.

Thanks! Does that also apply to the spine and upper leading edges -- do I need to account for the vinyl end cap thickness, or is that small enough that it doesn't matter?
Finally (honestly) -- it appears that the join in the upper and lower spreader on this kite will be exposed. Is that how most people build it, or do you push the join into the pockets so it is hidden? (I have some kites where the split is exposed and some where it is hidden, but wasn't sure if there was a strong reason either way, like keeping sand out of the joint, etc.)?
Thanks again! Here's my sail, all completed, unfortunately I didn't order all the APAs, so can't finish it until next week!
-
Ok, one more! When measuring the standoffs, is the measurement between the sail and the spreader? Or the raw cut length? In other words, should I account for the thickness and depth of the fittings/end caps?

Hello, thanks for the plans, I'm building my first kite (glued up, sewing tonight)
For the P200 frame, do the 6mm HQ split caps fit over the P200? Or it is necessary to use an insert?
Also, 6mm caps seem to be out of stock everywhere in the US. Can the 5.3 be used instead, either reaming it out to 6mm, or somehow wrapping the insert so it is snug in the P200?
