Asmara-Der neue von Skyforce

    @ JohnIJ

I have Asamara plans in Nazkos desing:)
    Formats are pdf. & cdr.
I can send for you by e-mail.

    Learning to fly :)

I measure them the other day, and I have 73.8cm so 74 is good ;)
but if it fly great, don't change anything :H:

And I wait for the plans with the Nazko design... send them to me by mail

I cut the LS to 73,5 and it feels better, when I put the kite together, the tension is a little smoother
I hope we get a little dry weather, so I could test it.

Here's a pic with the "new" LS

Thanks for meassuring, Skyforce. I think I found the problem this morning:

When I meassured where to place the fittings (and cutouts) I meassures from where the nose would have been if it was to be pointed (=if the LEs had continued all the way to the spine). This means that my fittings were all placed 2cm too high on the LE. Moving the lower spreader fittings 2cm down (so they are 90,5cm from where the nose actually is) made the LS almost completely straight :) This is not a problem as I made the cutouts large enough for this. On the other hand I cannot move the upper spreader fittings down, so I have just cut a new upper spreader at 50cm. I will also make the upper outhaul leg of the bridle 2cm longer, and there should be no difference. Sorry for all the fuzz, Skyforce - your plan is perfect!

I just noticed that you are using R-Sky stand-off fittings at the sail end. These fittings add 11mm to the length of the stand-off, whereas the Jaco (that Skyforce uses) add only 2mm. In other words, if you have cut your stand-off according to the plan they are 9mm longer than they are supposed to be. So maybe it would be worth the trouble to cut them shorter.

Hopefully I'll be able to finalise my Asmara tonight (yoyo stoppers, c-clips, bridle, weight, bag etc.) and try it out in the weekend, if the weather permits :-O

Had my first flight today - I think this kite has potential :-O

The wind was about 2 m/s - a little too low for this kite, but with a little walking backwards it was ok.

So what is my impression: it's noisy like a Nirvana (I have not put a leechline in, as I like the buzz for speed control), turn radius was a little wider than I prefer, but I guess it's just a matter of moving the pigtails ½-1cm towards the center-T. Needs a larger input than I am used to with the xt.r's and the Virus. The kite sits nice and deep in the turtle, but it's not a problem to get it out again (nice work, Skyforce) this means that lazies and multilazies are very easy!. Pancakes fast for quick or slow flic-flacs, nice ½-axels, easy roll ups (eventhough my upper spreader is 2cm too high and therefore too long - will try a shorther one next time). Did my first K2000 - in first attempt :) The wind was too bumpy to do really repeated Jacob's ladders, but it seemed easy. Actually the only trick (that I can do on other kites) that I had problems with was the backspin - the kite didn't go all the way around, but I assume that it is due to the larger input required. I tried with both 5g and 10g in the tail - not really a big difference (I like the fact that the kite does not need a lot of weight to roll up - this shows a well-balanced design to me 8-) ).

Thanks for a great kite Skyforce, can't wait to get some better wind.

    HI Morten,
what bridle did you take? Turbo or Std?
For me the turnradius seems too wide too, I hope I could test my Asmara with shorter LS and a little shorter SOs tomorrow. IMO the kite is very tricky, even for a semi-rookie :D like me, Backspins were no big prob.

I used the turbo bridle. I'll start by moving the towpoints in a little, if that doesn't help, I'll try the Ernau/Tommax Virus bridle. As for the backspin, I'm sure it's my technique - I have difficulties backspinning my xt.r's too. I left the leech line out intentionally - I like the speed controlling effect it has :-O

    HI,
very nice pics, the Nazmara-design seems to be a must-have to me, so I'm gonna build a new sail after finishing my Thornback. :D
    The photo with the

underline is my new Desktop Background ;)

Just started to cut out the panels of the Nazmara :D . Looking at the spine section I noticed a slight curve at the bottom of the panel. I am used to straight spine sections. Normaly I make the center section in one piece. Can anybody pse explain me the meaning of this curve???

@JohnIJ: it's to 'tighten' the trailing edge, so you don't get folds between the spine and stand-offs. It is also in the Virus plans. I have made on both, and my trailing edges have come out nicely and without and folds. I would recommend it!
