Le Virus - Roll up ?

  • Hallo alle Virus-freunde ;)

I have finally gotten to spend some time with my Virus, and I must say this kite rocks!!! It does excellent jacobs ladders, backspins, rising fades and axels, BUT I'm embarresed to say that I'm having a really hard time getting it to roll up :-/ I can get it in a deep backflip without problems, but that's as far as it'll go. I can yoyo my weighted Gemini in 2 ways: jacobs ladder exit and the "lean kite backwards, tilt it forwards and give a pop"-method.

My Virus is framed in structil 6mm with 5PT spreaders and 3-point bridle from Christian. I'm using the weight from a std. Phoenix (14 grams in and of spine). Any suggestions ? -or do I just need to practice ?

    Thanks in advance

  • Hello Morten,

my Virus does yoyos by itself. I hav a similar frame like yours but I fly my Virus in very hard winds, when all my other kites have to give up. Then I am using 30 g weight at the lower end of the spine. I never flew it without the weight.

Perhabs you have to increase the weight

  • Hi Morten,
I had the same problem with my VentedVirus. I found out, that the positions of the Apas differed from those in the plans, which are a bit contradictory anyway. This gave the kite a larger wingspan. I then shortened all spreaders a bit and the kite behaved much better.

  • Hi Erik

I positioned my APA according to the original notes from Christian - not the plan, so that should be okay. BTW. what bridle do you use on your vtd. ? I have finally my hands on some insignia cloth, so I will be adding a vtd. to my bag...right after I finnish my Nazko (I'm currently trying to decide on the colours - I have set my mind on white, grey, antracite and purple, just need to figure out how...)

  • Even those are contradictory, or I have never really understood them. Better check the wingspan, without the part of the leading edge sticking out of the pockets.

  • I flew my Virus for about 3½ hours today and I quickly found the problem; it was not in the kite's end of the lines - I flew in strong wind and simply did not give enough slack after popping the lines for the yoyo. After I figured this out - woohoo! lots of yoyo action :)

It seems, that it was the old problem at the other side of the lines :D
