Forixier without "Tabulator holes" ?

  • Hi All

Has anyone built a Forixier/Elixier without making the holes in the wingtips ? Does this have any influence in flight ?

I'm considering building one using dacron for the wingtips, but I can really figure out how to make nice holes in them...

Alternatively, can anyone give some advice on how to make the holes nice and clean ?

    Thanks in advance :-O

  • Hi Morten,
you might try this: Do not use Dacron, use the self-adhesive Nummerntuch. I don't know how it is called in english, it's the thinner Dacron which is used for the registration numbers in the sail of sailing-boats. Shouldn't be a problem in Denmark...
Cut the shape 4 times, 2 mirrored. Paste 2 back to back, try get the adjoining sail panel in between the two layers. Since the stuff is very sticky, it might be a bit difficult. The advantage is that you can easily cut the holes with a cutter (after pasting the pieces together), the material will not fray at the edges.

  • Hi Morten,
you should use a so called circle-cutter. It works very fine and it will be no problem to make exact holes into the sail.

This is the one, I am using. Its a olfa cob-1 und you will find more information on their website.

  • Just asked in the local Bauhaus - they didn't have them, so I'll try office supply.

As for sealing the dacron, I would imagine that lightly strokking with a soldering iron/hot cutter would do the trick.
